Paris Jackson, the
15-year-old daughter of late singer Michael Jackson, was hospitalized early
Wednesday morning after an apparent suicide attempt, members of the teen's
family have confirmed.
"Being a
sensitive 15-year-old is difficult no matter who you are," Perry Sanders,
lawyer for matriarch Katherine Jackson, told USA Today. "It is especially
difficult when you lose the person closest to you. Paris is physically fine and
is getting appropriate medical attention. Please respect her privacy and the
family's privacy."
Earlier,
Katherine's lawyer told the New York Daily News that "we don't know what
she was exposed to that precipitated this."
Jackson's mother,
Debbie Rowe, confirmed the attempt with Entertainment Tonight, saying that her
daughter had "a lot going on [lately]." A publicist for her
grandfather, Joe Jackson, also confirmed the attempt to BBC News.
According to TMZ,
Jackson was taken by stretcher out of the family's Calabasas home at around 2
a.m. and rushed to a nearby hospital. The Los Angeles County Fire Dept. has
confirmed that they received a 911 call for a possible overdose at 1:15 a.m.
On Twitter,
Jackson had spent the last day posting cryptic messages that allude to
unhappiness in her life. In one tweet, Jackson asks "I wonder why tears
are salty?"; in another she quotes from the Beatles song,
"Yesterday."
Paris is the
second of Michael Jackson's three children. She has two brothers, 16-year-old Michael
Joseph, known as Prince, and 11-year-old Prince Michael II, known as Blanket.
June 25 will mark the fourth anniversary of the King of Pop's death.
