Taylor Swift made it a perfect 10 at the American Music Awards on Sunday night. The country star won three awards including Artist of the Year at the Nokia Theatre ceremony in Los Angeles, giving her ten AMAs in her career.
"This is one of the craziest things that has ever happened to me," she said as she picked up her Artist of the Year trophy. "Thank you to the fans, please never change. This is so crazy!"
Swift also won Favorite Country Album for "Speak Now" and Favorite Country Female Artist, her fourth win in a row in the category.
In a night full of diva domination, it was also a Pink Sunday at the AMAs, with Nicki Minaj winning two awards, Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop artist -- topping Lil Wayne and Kanye West -- as well as Favorite Soul/R&B Album for "Pink Friday."
"Barbz, love yourself no matter what, there's power in your peace, hold your peace," she said, addressing her fans.
Minaj made an impression from the show's opening moments, kicking off the AMAs with a David Guetta-aided booty-thumping performance of "Turn Me On" and "Super Bass."
Minaj wasn't the only one to rock pink on the big night: Katy Perry strummed her way through "One That Got Away" on a pink guitar that matched her dress and hairdo.
The pop star won a special award of achievement from the AMAs for scoring five No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits from "Teenage Dream," a single-album record for a female artist.
"I want to give thank to my amazing record label EMI," she said, a pointed remark in the wake of the historic label's split purchase by Sony and Universal.
Maroon 5 won the night's first award, Favorite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group, and capped off the victory with a performance of "Moves Like Jagger," after which singer Adam Levine joined Gym Class Heroes for "Stereo Hearts."
Competing with Levine for stage time was Jennifer Lopez, who offered a nearly six-minute performance of her own (with three costume changes) in addition to helping Will.i.am debut his new single.
J. Lo's triumphant night continued with her third overall AMA win, this time for Favorite Latin Artist.
"I'm shaking!" she said as she picked up the award. "I'm just grateful for all my blessings. I want to thank my family most of all, my beautiful babies, who inspire me to be better every day," she said before closing by thanking "mi gente latino."
Several of the night's biggest singers were absent for their victories, with Adele recovering from vocal cord surgery, Rihanna touring Europe and Beyonce promoting her new live DVD in addition to her pregnancy. (The latter two offered thanks via pre-taped videos.)
Still, there was no lack of star power. The three-hour show set an internal record for collaborative performances, but plenty of artists flew solo. Sean Kingston, looking healthy after his May jet ski accident, gave an enthusiastic introduction to Justin Bieber, who turned in a one-man performance of "Mistletoe" that got the audience waving its red glowsticks.
Kelly Clarkson, looking ready for the holiday season in a sparkling red floor-length dress, took the stage for her performance of "Mr. Know It All" with a "Newsies"-style open that poked fun at her label dramas and rumors about her sexuality.
And Adam Lambert's return to the AMAs stage -- the first since his controversial performance in 2009 -- was greeted with some of the night's biggest applause as he introduced OneRepublic.
"Wow, has it really been two years?" Lambert said.
Before the ceremony, Hot Chelle Rae, who won Sprint New Artist of the Year, wowed the red carpet crowd with performances of "Tonight Tonight" and "I Like It Like That" during the pre-show. Taio Cruz and Marianas Trench also performed.
A handful of awards were announced off-camera, including Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist (Adele) and Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist ( Usher).
The night ended with a predictably silly performance by party rappers LMFAO, who did a medly of recent hits complete with goofy cameos by Justin Bieber, David Hasselhoff and YouTube star Keenan Cahill.
