The 2013 MTV Movie Awards had plenty of memorable music moments
-- highlighted by the premiere performance of Selena Gomez's new song,
"Come and Get It."
Earlier this month, Jason Evigan, who collaborated on Gomez's new
material, said: "I think it's going to take her to the next level… She's
got some really cool like ethnic influence, kind of tribally dance drums and
stuff like that. I kind of feel she's going to be like a new J.Lo kind of
thing."
The unveiling of "Come and Get It" confirmed those
claims, as Gomez tore through a performance as fiery as her red dress. After
maturing in her "Spring Breakers" role, the actress/singer appears to
have plenty in store for the rest of 2013.
Earlier in the evening, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, backed by a
mariachi band, brought their latest hit to the L.A. crowd. As if proving to the
world that they wouldn't be known as one-hit wonders, the Seattle rap crew gave
an impassioned performance of "Can't Hold Us," which featured some
"crowd-walking" from Macklemore and an awful lot of happy-dancing
from Lewis. It certainly seems the duo's unlikely ride to the top will
continue.
To open the show, host Rebel Wilson reunited with her "Pitch
Perfect" ensemble for a medley of Miley Cyrus' "The Climb,"
Eminem's "Lose Yourself," Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Thrift
Shop," and Alicia Keys' "Girl On Fire." This came after the
actress was "rescued" from her native Australia by James Franco and
lifted into the arena.
