BILLBOARD.COM: Coldplay's 'Mylo Xyloto' Headed For Top Of Billboard 200

Next week, watch for Coldplay's "Mylo Xyloto" album to easily debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, as industry sources suggest the set will sell at least 440,000-450,000 by week's end on Oct. 30.

The British band's fifth studio set -- released on Monday, Oct. 24 -- will mark its third No. 1 album, following 2005's "X&Y" and 2008's "Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends." The latter started with 721,000 sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "X&Y" launched with 737,000.

If "Mylo" moves more than 440,000, it will be the largest sales week for a rock album since U2's "No Line On the Horizon" debuted at No. 1 with 484,000 on the chart dated March 21, 2009. Further, "Mylo" could post the third-largest sales frame of 2011, after Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" debut (1.1 million) and Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" start (964,000).

Coldplay is just one of a bevy of superstar acts that are looking to make a splashy bow on the Billboard 200 next week.

Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger" is on course to debut at No. 2 with maybe 150,000 while Michael Buble's "Christmas" could start at No. 3 with over 110,000.

"Stronger" will mark Clarkson's fifth top three album (her entire output) and is the follow-up to the No. 1 set "All I Ever Wanted" in 2009. It entered the tally with 255,000 and was led by the No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 single "My Life Would Suck Without You." Her new album's lead track, "Mr. Know It All," climbs 24-19 on the Hot 100 this week.

Buble's "Christmas" should earn the pop singer his fifth top 10 set and his second holiday entry on the tally. His first seasonal effort, the EP "Let It Snow," peaked at No. 32 in 2009 and has sold 1 million.

Country king Toby Keith should grab his 12th top 10 with "Clancy's Tavern" aiming to debut with around 65,000 sold. His last release "Bullets in the Gun," fired at No. 1 in 2010 with 71,000.

Elsewhere on the Billboard 200, look for veteran singer/songwriter Tom Waits to claim his highest charting album ever, as "Bad As Me" could arrive in the top 20. His chart high thus far came with 2004's "Real Gone," which debuted and peaked at No. 24.

DJ/producer Kaskade could also make some major Billboard 200 noise as his "Fire & Ice" may give the artist his first top 20 set. The effort, which includes guests Skylar Gray and Skrillex, would easily trump his previous chart peak: No. 104 with "Dynasty" in 2010.

BILLBOARD.COM: Jackson Doc Moved To Tears By Patient's Testimony

Michael Jackson's doctor, a model of composure throughout his four-week trial, was moved to tears when five patients marched into court Wednesday to offer testimonials about his medical skills.

Dr. Conrad Murray maintained his typically calm demeanor until Ruby Mosley, a tiny gray-haired woman with a cane, struggled to the witness stand to defend him.

She spoke of knowing his father, also a doctor, in the poor community of Acres Home outside Houston and said she met Conrad Murray when he opened a clinic dedicated to his father's memory.

"If this man was greedy he never would have come to the community of Acres Home," she said, testifying that most residents are senior citizens on fixed incomes.

Murray's eyes brimmed with tears and he wiped them with a tissue for several moments after Mosley left the witness stand. She was the last of five character witnesses that Murray's attorneys called during the doctor's involuntary manslaughter trial. He has pleaded not guilty.

Authorities contend Murray gave Jackson a lethal dose of the anesthetic propofol in the singer's bedroom on June 25, 2009, while treating him for a sleep disorder. Defense attorneys claim the singer gave himself the deadly dose.

Four other witnesses, all heart patients at Murray's cardiology offices in Houston and Las Vegas, expounded on his talents, saying he was a caring thorough doctor who tended to their hearts and later became a friend.

"He is my best friend," said Gerry Causey, a former patient who drove from his current home in Cedar City, Utah, to testify.

"The reason I came here to help Dr. Murray is I know his love, his compassion, his feeling for his patients, every one of them and I just don't think he did what he's accused of doing."

Another witness, Andrew Guest of Las Vegas, looked at Murray across the courtroom and declared, "I'm alive today because of that man. That man sitting there is the best doctor I've ever seen."

Guest said Murray explained every aspect of his treatment and even called him at home on a weekend to see how he was doing.

On cross-examination, prosecutor David Walgren asked, "Would you agree that the level of care Dr. Murray gave you with a team to back him up - every patient deserves that level of care?"

"Yes sir, I do," Guest said.

Walgren asked all the witnesses if they had ever been treated by Murray for a sleep disorder. They had not.

Walgren, suggesting the witnesses were biased, asked if anything could change their minds about Murray. They answered no. They also told of being notified by Murray in the spring of 2009 that he was taking a sabbatical and going to London. They said he never mentioned Jackson.

"I was a little bit in despair because I didn't know who was going to take care of me," said patient Lunette Sampson, who recently moved to San Diego from Las Vegas. Still, she said Murray gave her all of his phone numbers and said he would refer her to another doctor.

Under California law, character witnesses can be offered in an effort to create reasonable doubt of guilt.

Before the trial recessed for the day, Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor told Murray he soon plans to ask the defendant to state whether he wants to testify in his own defense.

The judge emphasized that the right to testify was his alone.

"It does not belong to your attorneys, to the prosecution or to me," Pastor said. "If you want to testify, you will testify even if someone may be counseling you not to testify. Do you understand?"

"Yes," Murray said softly.

He warned Murray that testifying would subject him to cross-examination and said, "I also want to advise you that you have an absolute constitutional right not to testify, the right to remain silent."

Murray's final witnesses, a pair of medical experts, were due on the witness stand Thursday.

BILLBOARD.COM: Adele No. 1 On Hot 100 as Rihanna, Drake, Justin Bieber Surge

While Adele's "Someone Like You" spends a fifth week atop the Billboard Hot 100 song chart, Rihanna makes a play for the top spot, Drake vaults into the top 10 and Justin Bieber decorates the tally with the season's first holiday hit.

"Someone" commands the Hot 100 for a fifth frame. The ballad holds at No. 2 for a fifth week on Radio Songs (148 million all-format audience impressions, up 3%, according to Nielsen BDS), while slipping 1-3 after four weeks at No. 1 on Digital Songs (173,000, down 16%, according to Nielsen SoundScan).

As Adele's prior single, "Rolling in the Deep," led the Hot 100 for seven weeks beginning in May, the singer/songwriter becomes just the fourth woman in the chart's history to reign for at least five weeks with multiple songs in a year. Beyonce last accomplished the feat with "Crazy in Love," featuring Jay-Z (eight weeks at No. 1), and "Baby Boy," featuring Sean Paul (nine), in 2003. Monica ruled with "The Boy Is Mine," with Brandy (13), and "The First Night" (five) in 1998, while Mariah Carey had sent "Fantasy" (eight) and "One Sweet Day," with Boyz II Men (the first five of its 16 weeks at No. 1), to the top in 1995.

Rihanna's "We Found Love," featuring Calvin Harris, roars 6-2 on the Hot 100. The lead single from "Talk That Talk," due Nov. 21, and Rihanna's 20th Hot 100 top 10 lifts 3-1 on Digital Songs (231,000, up 331%) and 15-11 on Radio Songs (70 million, up 20%). "Found" marks Rihanna's record-extending 11th No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart. Eminem ranks second with seven leaders, followed by Katy Perry and Britney Spears, each with six.

Former four-week Hot 100 No. 1 "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera falls 2-3, as LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" holds at No. 4 as the chart's Airplay Gainer, rising 11-10 on Radio Songs (76 million, up 20%).

Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" slips 3-5 on the Hot 100; Gym Class Heroes' "Stereo Hearts," featuring Maroon 5's Adam Levine, descends 5-6; David Guetta's "Without You," featuring Usher, remains at No. 7; and, Cobra Starship's "You Make Me Feel...," featuring Sabi, stays at No. 8.

After debuting last week at No. 97 with partial-week sales, Drake's "Make Me Proud," featuring Nicki Minaj, skyrockets to No. 9 as the Hot 100's Digital Gainer (166,000, up 607%). The vault ties for the biggest ever by a male, equaling Akon's 88-spot blast (95-7) with "Smack That," featuring Eminem, five years ago this week. Among all artists, the leap of "Proud" is tied for the fourth-greatest, following Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You" (97-1, 2009), Spears' "Womanizer" (96-1, 2008) and Beyonce and Shakira's "Beautiful Liar" (94-3, 2007).

Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, LMFAO's former six-week No. 1 "Party Rock Anthem," featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock, dips 9-10.

Just outside the Hot 100's top tier, Justin Bieber scores the top new entry, as "Mistletoe" jingles in with 164,000 in first-week digital sales. Despite a two-month wait until Christmas, anticipation for the teen star's first holiday set, "Under the Mistletoe," due Tuesday (Nov. 1), spurs the song's lofty launch.
Upon its entrance, "Mistletoe" is the third-highest-charting holiday hit in the Hot 100's history, following the Chipmunks' "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" (No. 1, four weeks, 1958-59) and New Kids on the Block's "This One's for the Children" (No. 7, 1989). (Variations in chart rules over the years prevented certain seasonal songs from appearing on the list).

BILLBOARD.COM: Britney Spears Saddened To Hear About Concertgoer's Death

Britney Spears has released a statement following the death of a 31-year-old who fell from a carnival ride just outside Dublin's O2 arena after watching Spears perform.

"I was saddened to hear of the tragic accident in Dublin. My heart goes out to the family," Spears posted on Twitter Tuesday (Oct. 25) afternoon.

The U.K. Daily Mail reports that the 31-year-old had watched Spears' Femme Fatale tour before boarding the fairground ride, which had been set up right outside the venue for fans. It's unclear if the rides were connectedto Spears, the Daily Mail reports.

The woman reportedly was thrown to the ground around 11:20 p.m. She died instantly and her body was removed from the scene, according to the Daily Mail. No other information was released by officials, who are conducting an investigation. The festival area has been cordoned off.

There is speculation the ride's malfunction may have been related to heavy rains, which have plagued East Ireland over the past 24 hours. An emergency was declared in Dublin after the Dodder, Poddle and Camac overflowed their banks.

It's the latest weather-related tragedy to occur during a concert. This summer, Sugarland's stage collapsed at the Indiana State Fair, killing several people.

The Pukkelpop Music Festival -- which was to feature performances by Eminem, The Foo Fighters and Offspring -- was canceled after five were killed in August.

BILLBOARD.COM: Casting Crowns Scores Top Billboard 200 Debut, Adele Back At No. 1

Adele's "21" jumps back to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart this week (rising 2-1), marking its 13th week atop the tally. That's the most weeks at No. 1 since the soundtrack to "Titanic" set sail in 1998 and spent 16 weeks at the top.

"21" sold 106,000 copies last week according to Nielsen SoundScan -- the eighth week in a row the album has moved more than 100,000. Further, "21's" total sales now stand at 4.1 million -- it just surpassed the 4 million threshold this week. It's by far the year's biggest selling album -- as it's more than 2 million copies ahead of the No. 2 set: Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" (1.9 million).

With Adele's rise back to the top this week, she blocks Casting Crowns from earning its first No. 1. The latter's "Come to the Well" settles for the runner-up slot, selling 99,000 in its first week. It was initially projected that there was going to be a battle between Casting Crowns and Adele for the top slot, but Adele was able to ultimately hold on and beat out the Christian group.

"Come to the Well" is the fourth top 10 set for the act, and their second to reach No. 2, following "The Altar and the Door" in 2007. The band's last album, "Until the Whole World Hears," debuted and peaked at No. 4 in 2009 with 167,000 sold in its first week.

Scotty McCreery's former No. 1, "Clear As Day," rises 4-3 (57,000; down 36%), while last week's leader, Evanescence's self-titled effort, drops to No. 4 with 40,000 (down 69%). Tony Bennett's "Duets II" is up 6-5 (39,000; down 29%), Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" climbs 9-6 (36,000; down 22%) and Lady Antebellum's "Own the Night" moves 8-7 (34,000; down 27%).

R&B singer Joe sees his new "The Good, the Bad, the Sexy" enter at No. 8 with a 33,000 launch, marking his fifth top 10. He last visited the tally with the EP "Make Sure You're Home for Christmas" in 2010, which peaked at No. 52. His last proper studio set was 2009's "Signature," which premiered at No. 7 with 49,000.

Rounding out the top 10 is Five Finger Death Punch's "American Capitalist" (3-9 with 29,000; down 68%) and Lauren Alaina's "Wildflower" (5-10 with 26,000; down 63%).

The Billboard 200 should brighten up next week with the expected No. 1 arrival of Coldplay's "Mylo Xyloto," along with likely top 10 debuts from Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger" and Michael Buble's "Christmas."

Over on the Digital Songs chart this week, we've got a new No. 1, as Rihanna's "We Found Love," featuring Calvin Harris, jumps 3-1 with 231,000 (up 33%). It's the 11th No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart for Rihanna and bodes well for where she might land on the overall Billboard Hot 100 singles chart when it is released later today.

LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" holds at No. 2 (206,000; up 1%) while Adele's "Someone Like You" falls 1-3 (173,000; down 16%).

Drake's "Make Me Proud" (featuring Nicki Minaj) flies 60-4 with 166,000 sold after its first full of sales were registered (up 607%). It debuted last week with only one day's worth of sales (Oct. 16). Right below him is Justin Bieber's new holiday single, "Mistletoe," which debuts at No. 5 with 164,000.

Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" drifts 4-6 (152,000; down 13%), Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger" (featuring Christina Aguilera) falls 5-7 (141,000; down 15%) and David Guetta's "Without You" (featuring Usher) is steady at No. 8 (125,000; down 3%). Gym Class Heroes' "Stereo Hearts" (featuring Adam Levine) slides 7-9 (125,000; down 8%) while Coldplay's "Paradise" zooms 18-10 with 109,000 (up 100%).

Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Oct. 23) totaled 4.84 million units, down 7% compared to the sum last week (5.22 million) and down 7% compared to the comparable sales week of 2010 (5.17 million). Year to date album sales stand at 243.68 million, up 3% compared to the same total at this point last year (236.14 million). It is the 22nd week in a row where year-to-date album volume is greater than the same time in the prior year.

Digital track sales this past week totaled 20.48 million downloads, down 4% compared to last week (21.34 million) and up 10% stacked next to the comparable week of 2010 (18.58 million). Year to date track sales are at 1.01 billion, up 10% compared to the same total at this point last year (918.25 million).

Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2010 when: Taylor Swift made history with the debut of "Speak Now" at No. 1 with 1,047,000 copies sold. It was the only arrival in the top 10.

BILLBOARD.COM: Amy Winehouse Died From Too Much Alcohol, Coroner Finds

Amy Winehouse died as the unintended consequence of drinking too much alcohol, a British coroner ruled Wednesday.

Coroner Suzanne Greenaway gave a verdict of "death by misadventure," saying the singer died of accidental alcohol poisoning. "The unintended consequence of such potentially fatal levels (of alcohol) was her sudden and unexpected death," Greenaway said.

The singer, who had fought drug and alcohol problems for years, was found dead in bed at her London home on July 23 at age 27. An initial autopsy proved inconclusive, although it found no traces of illegal drugs in her system.

Pathologist Suhail Baithun told the inquest into the singer's death that Winehouse had consumed a "very large quantity of alcohol" - the level in her blood put her more than five times over the legal drunk-driving limit.

Police Detective Inspector Les Newman, who was called after a security guard found Winehouse, said empty vodka bottles were scattered around her bedroom.

Winehouse's doctor, Dr. Christina Romete, said the singer had resumed drinking in the days before her death after a period of abstinence.

Romete, who saw Winehouse the night before she died, said the singer was "tipsy but calm." She said Winehouse had not spoken of suicide, and talked about her upcoming birthday.

Romete said Winehouse had been prescribed drugs including the sedative Librium to help her cope with the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal, but the coroner said these had played no role in her death.

Winehouse family spokesman Chris Goodman said it was a relief to the family "to finally find out what happened to Amy."

"The court heard that Amy was battling hard to conquer her problems with alcohol and it is a source of great pain to us that she could not win in time," he said.
